Inspiration & Encouragement

Misadventures, Life Lessons…and Cookies

“She generally gave herself very good advice (though she very seldom followed it)…”
~Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Judging by the above quote, I’m basically as Alice as it gets lately. I may give myself pep talks, but sometimes the words have a hard time making it from my head to my heart, then to my feet to put them into action.

I’m learning about endurance right now.

It’s not my favorite lesson.

With that being said, however, I know that everything we walk through helps us to grow in ways we can’t even imagine… I mean, who wants to read a book without a conflict? All of my favorite stories include snags in the plan – things the main characters have to work through to get the great love of their lives or rescue their families from danger. And most fiction is based at least loosely on real life, right? I’m not sure why I’d think my life would be the exception.

Even with this reminder, I don’t know of anyone who could tell you that trials are fun. I’m definitely not going to raise my hand on that one! To be honest, sometimes I don’t handle them well at all. As strong as I would love to seem, when faced with too much pressure, I feel like I’m about as soft as well-dunked Oreo (which I could totally use a big plate of right now if anyone wants to share)!

This post was intended to be something completely different, and I was going to give a lot more details on some new things happening in my life; but sometimes, all that needs to be said has already been said. So, I’m just going to leave some Scripture here that I really need right now, and, with all of the turmoil going on throughout my country and many others right now, maybe you do too…

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” ~James 1:2-4

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with love.” ~Romans 5:3-5

Let’s let God use our journeys to shape us.

Let’s not only speak good things into our lives, but actually apply them.

Let’s be tough cookies, friends!
